We all know dating apps can be tricky sometimes; a point comes when you just feel ‘no more!’ (Even if it’s just till the next best dating apps comes along. Sometimes we want a break from it all; for different reasons of course. Maybe you found the love of your life and you no longer need the dating app because obviously you’re dating. Maybe you keep meeting scumbags and you give up on online dating, you want to explore the real world with your own eyes not with an app taking you places, whatever your reason is, trust me, you’re not alone.

Despite Tinder being one of the most popular dating apps, an especial hit in 2018, it is not perfect and sometimes, it is not successful in finding you a significant other and it is not as secure as we would like to think. Recent research reveals that there are over three thousand victims of romance scams and that than 350 Tinder scams are recorded every month. This is alarming most would say and kind of scary because then, how are you sure you are not being scammed? The truth is you never know, you just need to cross your fingers and hope for the best.

One of the biggest problems of Tinder is automated programs that are designed to start conversations with other users and these programs are called bots. These bots chat like they are real people, can be flirtatious and they ask you to send pictures of yourself; sounds real, right? Their profiles are completely detailed with information and pictures that keeps you interested enough to swipe right which is why anyone can fall victims to these imposters. If you have decided that you are done with Tinder and it’s time to use the door, then this article is perfect for you.

If you ever decide you are done with Tinder, first thing you need to know is that deleting the app does not automatically deactivate your account; Tinder doesn’t let go of you that easily. Your profile remains active as well as your matches and messages. Tinder does this so you can come back in whenever you decide you want to take another spin so if you really want to be done, you’re going to have to do it yourself following the steps I will list out as we go on. But if you want to keep your options open, then you can download the app anytime once again and Voila! You’re back like you never left.

However if having your profile active is not convenient for you and you find the idea that someone somewhere is checking out your profiles and salivating over your pictures not convenient, then you need to deactivate your account for real. It’s actually a very easy task and if you keep reading, you’ll find the steps to severing ties with Tinder once and for all.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO DEACTIVATING YOUR ACCOUNT

    1. First of all, you need to open the app and tap on your profile icon in the top right corner of the screen.
    2. Click on the ‘settings’ icon and scroll down till you reach the end.
    3. You will find ‘Delete account’ at the end of the list, click right on it.
    4. When you click on that, Tinder offers you two options so you can either hide your account or delete it for good.

At this point, you need to really decide if you want to really take a short break from your dates or you want to completely take a bow from the online romantic adventure. Tinder warns you that if you delete your account, you will permanently lose your profile, messages photos and matches and then offers you an option to hide your account until you are reading to join the dating cycle again. If you really want to go ahead with the deactivation, then you click ‘delete my account’ at this point.

    • When you click ‘Delete account’, you will be asked for the reason why you are doing this. Some of the options are ‘I don’t like tinder’, ‘I’ve met someone’, ‘I need a break from Tinder’ etc.  Click on one of the options provide and confirm your decision by clicking ‘Delete my account’ once again.

Congratulations! Your account has been deactivated forever, welcome to the real world.

    Final Thoughts

It is noteworthy that if you have a Tinder plus subscription, deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. You will have to do that yourself by visiting the App store or Google play store on your Android or iOS.
